Tensions flair up as Redding City Mayor Jack Munns Won't Allow Council Member Audette to Use Her PointPoint Presentation to Address Issues with the City Finance Director's Response to Her Budget Findings Report

After receiving over 10,000 signatures, the Shasta County petition for election reform was officially certified by the Registrars of Voters today.  This local measure will now be placed before the voters in the next election.  If successful, Shasta County will implement local control of their elections which will include voter ID, same day election results, and clean voter rolls.

Controversy Surrounds AB495 as some believe it protects immigrant children when their parent or guardian is not available to care for them, while others worry that this opens the door to human traffickers. Governor Newsom signed the bill into law on October 12th and many people have expressed outrage at the lack of checks and balances for the protection of minor children. The law also directs schools to not cooperate with law enforcement requests unless they receive a court

On March 13, during a budget workshop, Council Member Tenessa Audette noticed shifting claims about a budget gap—first $4M, then $8M. City Manager Barry Tippin insisted cuts could only come from police or fire. Audette raised questions about cash balances and inconsistent figures but got no clear answers, and was later prevented from asking questions when the budget passed 4–1.
