Redding Rancheria’s “Start Line Social” Kicks Off 1st Annual Ironman 70.3 Northern California Triathlon


Kudos, congrats—way to go—call it what you will to the Redding Rancheria Tribe for organizing, with competent assistance from the City of Redding, Redding Chamber of Commerce (Visit Redding ), and Viva Downtown, not to mention scores of volunteers, the 1st annual Start Line Social on Friday (8-14) night at Whistlestop Park in downtown Redding.



The event drew a sizeable crowd of well wishers looking forward to Sunday (8-16-‘26) morning’s 5 a.m. start of the first annual Ironman 70.3 Northern California Triathlon, which consists of a 2.5 mile swim in WhiskeyTown Lake, a 65 mile bike ride throughout a good slice of Shasta County and then concludes with a half marathon (13 miles) at the Sundial Bridge near the Redding Civic Auditorium.


Redding Rancheria Chairman, Jack Potter, Jr., opened up the celebration by saying, “We are incredibly grateful to be a part of this amazing “first-time event”….and to welcome so many competitors, families and supporters to the North State community.”


Chairman Potter continues:  “Furthermore, we are honored to share our culture through our drum group and a welcome from Redding Rancheria CEO, Tracy Edwards.  Thank you to everyone, especially the volunteers, who joined us, including Redding Sports Commission, Dignity Health, the City of Redding, its Chamber of Commerce, Visit Redding and Viva Downtown.”
