New Gold Runner Bus Service Launches from Redding to Sacramento Airport
Redding, CA – August 10, 2026 – The San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority (SJJPA) and Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA) today launched Route 5, a new Gold Runner Thruway bus service connecting Redding and Sacramento along the Interstate 5 corridor.
The service provides two daily round-trips with stops in:
Redding Amtrak Station (1620 Yuba Street)
Red Bluff (735 Rio Street)
Orland
Williams
Sacramento International Airport (Terminals A and B)
Sacramento Valley Station (Amtrak)
The route operates in reverse order on the return trip. It gives North State residents convenient access to Sacramento International Airport, Gold Runner and Capitol Corridor trains, Sacramento Regional Transit, local transit in Redding and Red Bluff, and Glenn Ride service to Chico via Orland. Bus-only tickets are available for travel between any cities on the route.
Schedule
Two daily round trips operate seven days a week. Southbound departures from Redding are at approximately 9:00 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. Northbound departures from Sacramento Valley Station are in the early afternoon and evening. Exact times are available on the official schedule. Operators plan to expand frequency if demand supports it.
Tickets
Purchase tickets in advance on Amtrak’s website or https://goldrunner.com/bus-routes/ (recommended for best availability and discounts for students, seniors, veterans, or persons with disabilities). Cash is also accepted from RABA drivers on the bus. One-way tickets are approximately $23.
“Route 5 delivers on a long-standing goal of connecting the North State to the Sacramento region,” said Chris Orlando, CEO of SJJPA. Zachary Bonnin, Interim Transit Manager for RABA, called the launch “the result of years of collaboration” that expands access to jobs, education, healthcare, and travel opportunities.
The new route is the culmination of multi-year planning that began in 2017 as part of the North State Intercity Bus System. A community ribbon-cutting celebration will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, at 8:15 a.m. at 1530 Yuba Street in Redding.
