The 78th annual Redding Rodeo, ranked as one of the “60 best rodeos in the country,” kicked off with a high energy, family friendly Launch Party, held smack dab in the middle of the Redding Rodeo Grounds, featuring live music, country and line dancing by Better in Boots, plus Tri tip sandwiches served by the Redding Rodeo Auxiliary Association, more commonly known as the “The Ladies Behind The Red Shirts” who’ve been assisting the Redding Rodeo Association since the ‘50s.
From 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 150 kids competed in a Mutton Bustin’ contest, during which 48 were chosen to take part in the actual 4-day rodeo, May 13, 14, 15, 16, 2026, because they rode the slightly uncooperative goats for the most seconds. From there, it was time for the Alan Jackson-inspired Jake Jacobson to take the stage from 8 PM to 10 PM.
Said Redding Rodeo Association president, Eric Matson, “We’re always happy when the launch party comes around, because it gives us an opportunity to draw the community together, with all the elements in place-music, dancing, kids' activities, great food, and great people. Also, let’s not forget the hard work that the Redding Rodeo Auxiliary Association contributes, and let’s give a giant shout-out of appreciation for the Redding Rodeo Launch Party sponsor, Edward Jones.”
