Located in Cottonwood, CA, Catz and Dogz of The North State  is thrilled to spotlight this week’s precious girl: sweet China ! Picture this heartbreaking scene: At only 4–5 weeks old, tiny China was tossed over a fence into a senior mobile home park. Thankfully, some kind residents found her shivering and alone, then called the shelter right away to take her in. That’s when this little fighter got her second chance and has been blooming into the most loving kitty ever since.

Born around June 4, 2023, this creamy-beige charmer (named after Bailey's Irish Cream for his gorgeous light color!) is believed to be a Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua mix. At just 13 pounds, he's compact, portable, and oh-so-snuggly. Bailey sports a distinctive white stripe between his eyes, a white-tipped tail, and a white patch between his shoulders. His favorite toy? His little stuffed dog—he carries it everywhere like a best buddy!

Say hello to these adorable 5-month-old siblings, Winston and Willow (born August 14, 2025)! They're a super-cute mix: half French Bulldog (mama) and half Basset Hound (papa). Expect the best of both worlds—those classic Frenchie smushy faces, playful energy, and those long, floppy Basset ears that will melt your heart!

The City of Shasta Lake Animal Shelter is beyond capacity and facing tough decisions. Three sweet, healthy, young dogs—Mocha, Gucci, and Conan—were originally scheduled for euthanasia this Thursday due to overcrowding. Thanks to a generous angelic sponsor, they've been given a short extension!

Karen Hansen moved from the Bay Area to Northern California in the early 1990s. She was shocked to discover widespread animal neglect and abuse in the area. Unable to turn away, she stepped up, volunteering at local animal shelters and becoming the first in Tehama County to start a "Pet of the Week" feature to highlight adoptable pets and raise awareness of the many animals in need of adoption.
