Man, sometimes I wanna’ toss my smart phone into the nearest dumpster. But early Sunday morning, April 19, 2026, my frustration turned to elation when it flashed on the screen that the Redding Grange #446 was having its first-ever brunch, featuring a breakfast casserole, sausage, country potatoes, biscuits & gravy, a fruit cup, coffee, and juice. YUM!

“Honey,” I called out to my lovely wife, Cheryl, “grab your coat, we’re goin’ to the Redding Grange to not only have brunch, but they’re raffling off a Colt Python 357 Magnum, with 100 rounds to boot, and I’m feelin’ lucky.” Of course, with 249 other “hopefuls” having purchased a chance to win this super handgun, I didn’t win. But it was all worthwhile because all of the proceeds from the brunch, gun raffle, and adult beverage sales went to worthwhile causes.
“This was our first attempt at a brunch, and it turned out nice,” exclaimed Redding Grange President, John Tasello, “And we will use the proceeds for our building fund, student scholarships, and our student dictionary program, whereby we’ve donated almost four thousand dictionaries to local third graders since 2006,” Tasello explained.
Tasello continues, “Since 1984, in the years that Ronald Reagan was our country’s President, the Redding Grange #446 has served as the headquarters home of the Sons & Daughters of Italy, Shasta Lodge. Every year, we team up to help the Asphalt Cowboys with their annual Pancake Breakfast and Barbeque, “ adding, “Our Redding Grange has only 32 members, but that does not stop us from doing good works in the community,” Tasello concludes.
The Grange is a fraternal organization with deep roots in agriculture. Its rituals reflect the importance of the land, tradition, and the values that define rural work. Beyond its agricultural foundation, the Grange serves as a community service organization where helping others has always been central to its mission. It creates welcoming spaces for people to come together, fostering social connection, leadership development, and growth opportunities, especially for young people. The Grange proudly remains non-partisan and non-denominational, with bylaws that prohibit partisan politics, while staying actively engaged in discussions that shape communities and the broader world. Through education and shared values, it empowers members to grow as individuals and strive for a higher standard of character and citizenship.
