Anytime Americans can get together, have a prayer, break bread, catch up with old friends, make new ones, well, that’s a good thing. And because the Cottonwood Lions Club seeks to bring people together, they “cook up” a 2nd-Sunday-of-every-month breakfast, from 8 to 11 (only $10!), open to the public, at its clubhouse, located at 3425 Locust Street in Cottonwood, California; And they’ve been feeding people breakfast ever since 1991! Hungry residents who attend, especially those from South County, can choose a pancake breakfast, with eggs and bacon or biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon. And, of course, beverages, such as coffee, are included.

As part of the Lions Club International, the world’s largest service organization, the Cottonwood Lions Club is widely recognized for its service to the blind and visually impaired. Did you know that every Lions Club, including the one in Cottonwood, collects prescription and reading eyeglasses? Collected glasses are sent to specialized recycling centers where they are cleaned, sorted by prescription, and packaged for distribution to those who lack access to proper eye care services. In addition, they actively engage with the Cottonwood community, particularly through events such as the Cottonwood Christmas celebration, parades, and scholarship awards.

Other activities undertaken by the Cottonwood Lions Club (and there are many!) include yard sale fundraisers, in which gently used donations are sold to the public, with proceeds used for charitable projects, for example. Then there’s the always-popular spaghetti feeds, the recently held Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, and many others. According to the Cottonwood Lions Club President, Annalisa Porter, one project they’re particularly proud of conducting, during Christmas season 2025, was when they took a select number of local children on a clothing shopping spree, which also included a wrapped Christmas gift and a food gift card to help out through the holidays.
