The 63rd Cottonwood Mother’s Day Weekend Rodeo, scheduled for May 10-11, 2026, will get a much-needed financial boost when supporters gather at Hops and Vines, 20633 Gas Point Road, Cottonwood, Ca., 96002, for the 2nd Annual Cottonwood Rodeo Yahtzee Tournament, to be played on Saturday, March 14, at 11 a.m. Hops & Vines is located just a few doors down from the Holiday Market on Gas Point Road.

To drum up support—and build awareness—for the Cottonwood Rodeo Yahtzee Tournament, the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce, under the direction of its president, Dan Canavan, organized a mixer on Friday, February 27, at Hops & Vines, drawing several individuals, including Hops & Vines owner, Chad Novak, chairman, Melissa Perez, Traci Pickens, Lisa Grimmett, Sydney Walker, Alex De La Cobas, Alissa Bell, Kristi Steadman, Justin Cochran (Cottonwood Chamber), Brian, Bobby Decker, Aaron Soura and Claudile Lee.
Businesses in attendance were: Hardline Trucking, Mane Street Hair, Golden Valley Bank, Cottonwood Chamber, Heart S Ranch Wedding Venue, WG Enterprises, Property Professional, Prime Welding, DLC Electric, 1st Amendment Fencing and Aerial Warrior Challenge Arena.

According to Melissa Perez, chairman for the Yahtzee Tournament, all funds raised will help support the Cottonwood rodeo queen with her travel and gear expenses. Additionally, only 60 seats are available and participants must be 21 to attend. Tickets are $30 each or table reservation (6) for $180. First place winners can take home $250, 2nd place $150 and 3rd place $50.
For the uninitiated, Yahtzee is a dice game and is a development of earlier dice games such as Poker Dice, Yacht and Generala. It is also similar to Yatzy, which is popular in Scandinavia. The objective of the game is to score points by rolling five dice to make certain combinations. The dice can be rolled up to three times to try to make certain combinations and dice must remain in the box. The winner is the player who scores the most points.
