The Anderson, California, Union High School, and the late, legendary football coach and teacher, Robert Lee “Bob” Reid Jr., were front and center as many, many dozens of South County-ians turned out for the 38th annual School…And…Community…Solidarity (SACS) fundraiser dinner/auction inside Fusaro Hall on the Shasta District Fair and Event Center grounds.

Amongst the impressive number of people that attended the SACS event were Chris Workman, the retired CEO of the Shasta District Fair and Event Center and the current chairwoman of SACS, Carla Foreman Maslin, SACS co-chair/decorations, Madeline “Massie” Eason/donations, Melissa Morrison, George Wold, Amanda and Jaycee Young, Amelia Carver, Mackenzie Dewey, Kyra Calfry, Clayton Levens, JoAnna Carlson, Jill Taylor, Corena Van Eperson, Ted A. Palmer, Rod Delmer, Cody McNamara, Larry Evan’s, Catrina Blanton and Paige Meyer, among others.
Bob Reid, who passed away on November 16, 2025, played football for Anderson Union High School before going on to Chico State. After graduation, he took over the Anderson Union High School football program in 1964. Just 26 years old then, he was young, raw, and stubborn. Before he took over all things gridiron, Anderson High had just one winning season since 1954. In 1970, just six years after taking over, the undefeated Anderson High School football team became league champs.
Over 37 seasons, until he retired in 2001, Bob Reid racked up 285 victories, just 45 losses, and nine Shasta Cascade League titles. Winning that many games ranks him among California’s top 25 football coaches. “My Dad also coached Little League, taught Sunday School, even grew tomatoes for the Booster Club,” remarked Reid’s daughter, Lee Angelia Reid,” “So he wasn’t flashy, didn’t have any national titles, no ESPN, he was just a man, quiet, steady, who turned kids into men and Anderson High into something bigger than itself,” she concluded.
The SACS “Go Big Blue” event is the major fundraiser for Anderson Union High School, which has a strong reputation and enrolls over 500 students in grades 9-12. The school colors are blue and gold, and the mascot is the Cub.
Sponsors of the SACS event include: Kent’s Meats & Groceries, Mulligan’s Bar & Restaurant, Haven Humane Society, Anderson Family Fitness, Giles Insurance Services, Bella Salon – Styled by Sadie, Final Touch Salon – Kaylyn Lasby, It’s Jerky, Grocery Outlet of Anderson, Gaia Hotel & Spa, Gold Hills Golf Club, Colt 45s, Blaach Beverage, Golden Brands, Margo Dean Notary, Kenny Doelker Backhoe Service, Shasta Athletic Club, Anderson Jr. Cubs, Portside Fish & Chips, Anderson Historical Society, Shasta District Fair & Event Center, Anderson Alumni Class of ’74, Bonnie Simmons, Caliber Office Furniture.
