The 55th annual plant sale at Shasta College

Charles Dethevo, Doug Mandel, Margaret Widdowson, and Bev Jennings, members of the California Native Plant Society, Shasta Chapter, and Ghost Pine Native Plant Nursery, respectively, were among the participants hosting the 55th annual Shasta College Horticulture Department Spring Plant Sale, held on Friday and Saturday, April 3 and 4, 2026, on the Shasta College campus.

The event, held on the campus' College Farm, was organized and staffed by the Shasta College Horticulture Club and featured many hard-to-find plants that have proven to grow well in the Shasta County area, with all proceeds going to fund scholarships, as well as providing financial support for the Shasta College Horticulture Club program.

Visitors to Shasta College's 55th annual Horticulture Department Spring Plant Sale, including Maicynne Ankemy, Leah Beeson, Amber Castillo, Abby Castillo, Dennis Custis, Macy Dambacher, Serena Elwood, Kacie Finn, Brenna Long, Sarah Roth, Angel Sams, Jerry Sanchez, Sr. and Grace Tousdale, were able to purchase annuals for bedding, cut flowers, perennials, herbs, succulents a wide variety of vegetable starts, plus trees, shrubs, California native plants and houseplants.

According to Leimone Waite, horticulture instructor at Shasta College, all plants that were available for sale were sustainably grown by horticulture students on the College Farm. Additionally, horticulture students have started growing a diverse selection of Certified Organic vegetable plants.
