It was “batter-up time” on Friday, May 30, 2026, when the beloved Colt 45s baseball team, under the direction of general manager Rick Bosetti, and team manager Bob Anderson, played host to the Watsonville Aggies to kick off the 22nd season, playing at historic 100-year-old Tiger Field. And after the Colt 45s shut out the Aggies, 2-0, several Colt 45 fans weighed in on why they absolutely dig the Colt 45s:
Dr. Samuel Carrino, Jr. “I was the original Colt 45s catcher in 2002-‘03. In 2004, the Colt 45s became more of a collegiate program, and that is when I transitioned to becoming the Colt 45s team doctor, a role I hold today, some 22 years later. I have watched the program improve with the likes of GM Rick Bosetti & Skipper Bob Anderson, both of whom have combined to greatly increase wins and reduce losses. It has been my honor to work with the boys, helping them recover from their injuries so that they could “stay in the game.”
Joe Bull-TV ad executive: “We are all wishing the Colt 45s SUCCESS in the 2026 Summer season. As a season-ticket holder and sponsor with Action News NBC and CBS, we have been involved with the Colt 45s for many years! Where else can you take the family and enjoy a truly affordable ballgame? Finally, Rick Bosetti and Bob Anderson always do a fantastic job putting out a very entertaining product…year after year. So let’s all push the sun up, into the sky one more time, and give it up for the “Boys-of-Summer.”
Kimberly Johnson, Children’s Legacy Center CEO: “Bob is the BEST coach that my oldest son has ever had. He knows the game and coaches to win. I have watched him at many games. On and off the field, Bob is a decent and caring human who’s dedicated to coaching his boys to be their best…on and off the field.”
Anthony Quinn: “Bob Anderson is a great coach. Good to see him doing what he does best.”
Peggy Ashcom, digital creator: “Rick and Patti work hard to make it happen. We really appreciate them.”
Jacob Greene, Voice of the Colt 45s: "I love calling games on the radio for the Colt 45s. This is my third summer calling games on KCNR. Despite the heat, it’s one of the greatest experiences of my life. I want to be a major league radio broadcaster for a team one day. I believe two years as the Director of Broadcasting at Simpson University, combined with my radio experience, will help me reach my goal."
Tiger Field, which is city-owned, opened in 1923 as a baseball park for the semi-pro Redding Tigers, who played their first game in April of that year against the Redding Elks. After a hundred years, Tiger Field is only one of two Redding structures still serving its original purpose, according to Rick Bosetti, Colt 45s general manager. “It’s a piece of living history in the Redding area,” he recently remarked.

Tiger Field was also home to minor league ball in the late ‘40s/early ‘50s, too, hosting the Redding Browns, a Class D affiliate of the St. Louis Browns, before the big wooden grandstand burned down a few years later, in 1955, to be exact. And 10 to 12 years ago, major updates were made to Tiger Field, including new seating (around 1,200 seats), dugouts, sod, and a backstop.
So if you happen to be taking in the Colt 45s at Tiger Field, eagerly consuming your hot dog, popcorn or maybe even an adult beverage, in between innings can give you an opportunity to check out the large, easily readable sponsor signs that are affixed to the outfield fence, including one for Jack’s Grill, Carmona’s Appliance and Mattress Center, JF Shea, Paint Marts, Sun Oaks, Wallner Plumbing, Sierra Pacific, Holiday Markets, CR Gibbs, Umpqua Bank, KCNR, Muse. There’s more: Tri Counties Bank, Professional Exterminators, Ewing, Valli, Wild 99.3 FM, Members 1st, LKQ, Banner Bank, Ledford, Plummer 9, and Dunlap Sawyer.
Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the park. Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don’t care if I ever come back!
