On a warm, picturesque March morning in 2026, downtown Red Bluff buzzed with excitement. Outside the Los Mariachis Mexican Restaurant, the Red Bluff Chamber of Commerce, alongside Mayor JR Gonzales, City Manager Tom Westbrook, and various local businesses and nonprofits, officially welcomed the SHASTA UNFILTERED eNewspaper with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“What an amazing celebration we had, welcoming the SHASTA UNFILTERED eNewspaper to the Red Bluff/Tehama County community. Cutting the ribbon marked this exciting milestone,” remarked Jason Bauer, the Chamber’s Principal Objectives Coordinator.
A Vision for Honest Reporting
Launched in late summer 2025, the SHASTA UNFILTERED eNewspaper was founded by dedicated Redding residents and volunteers: Elisa Ballard, Margaret Cantrell, Kari Chilson, Gary Peyrot, and Jerry Sanchez, Sr. Their mission was clear: to create a “frontline/online portal” that delivers honest news and entertainment in a transparent and unbiased manner. This initiative aims to serve the North State population across Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties.
The founding members, including Kari Chilson, Elisa Ballard, and Jerry Sanchez, Sr., emphasize their commitment to providing accurate and transparent content. They believe in fostering unity and community engagement throughout the North State. Their goal is to offer unbiased and timely reporting that respects diverse voices. They focus on local interest stories that highlight the people, places, and events that make the North State shine.
Community Voices Matter
The SHASTA UNFILTERED eNewspaper has already made a significant impact on the local community. Residents are eager to share their thoughts. Nick Gardner, a lifelong Redding resident and co-host of a local Sunday morning show on KQMS radio, expressed his support: “As a life-long resident of Shasta County, I am very pleased to have a non-biased source such as the SHASTA UNFILTERED eNewspaper. I remember when the news was reported… only the news… and not some slanted story to manipulate the news for a desired opinion. It’s my pleasure to welcome SHASTA UNFILTERED,” Gardner concluded.
