The other day, Sunday afternoon, December 14, to be exact, I was cruising by the Redding Senior Center on Benton Drive and noticed that their very large parking lot was awash with cars, with a giant blow up of a wolf, at the entrance door, with the words Shasta Jr. Wolves inscribed on its side. Naturally, being a curious soul, I doubled back and snagged the last parking spot (really!), jumped out, took several pics of the giant wolf, then went inside.
Wow, I thought, this place is packed with people, young, old, in between, you name it. So I wondered around, taking pics of several Shasta Jr. Wolves posters and a whole bunch of trophies situated on the stage, before spotting a big, burlly man, who was wearing a blazer with the words Shasta Jr. Wolves embroidered on the front.
“Sir, you look like you could be a football coach”, I opined,” and what’s the reason for this very large gathering”? Come to find out that I was in the middle of the 53rd anniversary of an awards ceremony for the Shasta Jr. Wolves Youth Football and Cheer Program, and that this large and gregarious fellow was/is a head coach by the name of David C. Ledford.

Making great progress, Coach Ledford introduced me to Chris Thomas, the President of the Shasta Jr. Wolves Youth Football and Cheer Program, as well as serving as head coach for the organization’s 10U football team. Coach Thomas introduced me to Mike Fife, a board member of the Shasta Jr. Wolves Youth Football and Cheer Program, who also volunteers as the head coach of the 14U football team.

As explained by all three head coaches, the Shasta Jr. Wolves Youth Football and Cheer Program consists of four football teams and five cheer teams. More information about the Shasta Jr. Wolves Youth Football and Cheer Program can be found by visiting ShastaJrWolves.com.
