What a sight, indeed, to witness all the smiling faces, young, old and in between, inside the cavernous gymnasium of Anderson’s Meadow Lane elementary school, as the 3rd annual Multi Cultural Festival unfolded on Saturday morning, the 4th of October, and concluded with a free international foods lunch for all attendees.
Kicking off the ceremonies, which included multi-cultural speakers, dance, martial arts and Native American practices, was Amarjit Singh, the event’s organizer, who’s also director of the Sikh Temple and an executive with the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency. He was ably assisted by Shasta County (5th District) Supervisor, Chris Kelstrom, who served as the master of ceremonies.
“We would not have been able to stage such a large and impressive event were it not for our dedicated volunteers, contributors, partners and co-sponsors,” Singh said, specifically citing Eddie McAllister, Don Yost, Keith Brookshaw, Lee Macey and Nimal Singh Milton, including partners such as the Shasta Regional Medical Group, Shasta Beloved Community, Shasta Equal Justice Coalition, Cascade Union Elementary School District, United Way of Northern California, California Fire Foundation, The Center at Sierra Health Foundation, Reciproka, Listor California, NorCal Health Services and Ustos California.
Regarding co-sponsors, Singh cited the following: Shasta Community Health Center, Shasta Interfaith, Cultural Center of Butte County, Ca., Radio Mexicana, KKRN, Nor Cal Punjabi Association of Ca. and the Shasta County Citizens Advocating Respect.
