Reflecting on Joy

ree

As the weather chills and Christmas nears, I’m reflecting on the good things in life. While there is certainly troubling news, including threats and clashes around the world, we should remember to be thankful for what we have.

“Joy to the World” is a beautiful anthem of gratitude to God for sending His Son to save the people He loves so much. I sang that song for years without recognizing the true meaning. I thought that I could run my life by my own rules, seeking to “be a good person.” Then I learned that being good isn’t enough. God doesn’t need our goodness in heaven. We only enter by His grace!

If you have not considered the Savior’s grace to be important in your life, why not choose this Christmas to ask God to show you His grace, mercy, and love. What do you have to lose, except fear, shame, frustration, and guilt?

Even without a seismic shift in your spiritual journey, I pray that you will experience the joy of the season. The best way is to brighten someone else’s day. Since so many struggle during the holidays, can you find someone to bless, with a smile, a cup of coffee, or maybe just a few minutes of listening to their story? Kindness is contagious. I want to encourage you with this quote from Mother Teresa:

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Enjoy the preparations. Be kind. Open your home and your heart to the needs of others. And be thankful for the “wonders of His love”.

Ten Days until Christmas!
