Redding Elks Lodge #1073 is not open to the public, but 10 years
ago it partnered with Redding Emblem #515 and opened one of
its parking areas to provide a safe place for Halloween “Trick or
Treaters” and their families to celebrate the event. It was called
“Trunk or Treat” and the first year there were about 10 Emblem members’ cars parked in the Elks Lodge parking lot, trunks open and filled with “treats”. It didn’t get much publicity, but random families still found their way and the little ones had their “treats”. Year 2 it rained,
and rained and rained, but the Lodge opened its doors so the event was held inside. And from there it began to grow! The event grew from 10 cars in the parking lot to literally
hordes of families with children in costumes, collecting treats and having the time of their lives with their family in a safe place.
The 10th anniversary of the Annual Halloween Trick or Treat is on Sunday, 10/26/25 from 1-3 PM. Costumed or not, bring your children or grandchildren, and watch the joy on their faces as they collect the “treats”, free books and coloring books, and lots more in the Trick or Treat Bag (provided to the first 200) and have fun in the Bounce House, Tunnel of Terror
(haunted house), with a DJ providing music and ample room for the kids to burn some energy. In the past CalFire has brought one or two of its beautiful fire trucks that the kids love and the firemen love to interact with the kids. One of the top highlights of this event is the safety for the children to celebrate the day, trick or treat for goodies, enjoy the bounce
house and the haunted house and all the other great stuff – it’s a wonderful event.
All in all, if you have kids or grandkids, dress them in their costumes and come on down to the Elks Lodge, 250 Elk Drive in Redding on Sunday, October 26, and spend an hour or two –1:00-3:00 pm - in a safe place where kids can enjoy being “kids”.
