ANDERSON — The Frontier Senior Center in Anderson has received a significant boost in its efforts to repair its aging roof, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the McConnell Fund of the Community Foundation of the North State.
Trish Clark, president of the Frontier Senior Center, made the announcement on her Facebook page recently. The grant will help fund the replacement of the center’s roof, which has an estimated total cost of approximately $119,000. The contribution represents a major step forward for the nonprofit, which had previously raised more than $30,000 through community fundraisers.
"This support means far more than simply repairing a building — it helps ensure that our center can continue serving as a welcoming place for friendship, meals, activities, education, and support for seniors in our community," the center stated in the announcement. Located at 2081 Frontier Trail in Anderson, the Frontier Senior Center has been a vital resource for local seniors since opening in 1996. The facility provides daily programs, hot meals, social activities, and support services to hundreds of older adults in the Anderson area and greater Shasta County. The center serves a community breakfast from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. on the first Sunday of every month, and the monthly calendar on their website lists exercise classes, card games, bingo, line dancing, Bible studies, quilting, and beading activities.
The roof project became a priority after inspections revealed urgent needs. Center leaders and volunteers had been actively fundraising, including a March 14, 2026, dinner and auction event, to address the issue before further damage occurs.
The Etc Thrift Store, located at 2965 East Center Street in Anderson, provides important ongoing support for the Frontier Senior Center through sales and donations. The store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and warmly welcomes both shoppers and donations. Volunteers are also needed — whether you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, stay active, or simply enjoy thrifting, the store offers a welcoming opportunity to help.
The McConnell Foundation, through its partnership with the Community Foundation of the North State, regularly supports nonprofits in Shasta and surrounding counties with grants for infrastructure, equipment, and community programs. This latest award aligns with the foundation’s focus on strengthening local organizations that serve vulnerable populations.
Center representatives expressed deep gratitude for the grant, noting that it will allow them to maintain and expand services without interruption. Work on the roof replacement is expected to move forward in the coming months as additional funding is secured.
