Eating Waffles And Meeting Friends At Country Waffles Redding

So Cheryl and I hop into our 37-year-old Bronco 2, on a beautiful and breezy Spring morning, and motor off to a brand new breakfast spot on Redding’s eastern flank, the “newer” side, if you will.  Of course, when we get there, it’s jam city, meaning cars are parked everywhere and anywhere.  When we finally find a just vacated spot in the middle of nowhere, another couple pulls up, wanting what we want;  classic scenario, huh?  Being benevolent people that we are, we let ‘em have it, of course, and head back to our home on Redding’s west side, the “older side”…………. if you will.

Traversing through Redding’s Garden neighborhood, there it was, on the corner of South Street and Athens Avenue:  Country Waffles Redding, standing out like a sore thumb (sorry!) with, you guessed it………… PLENTY OF PARKING outside and beaucoup delicious food inside.  And because my bride, Cheryl, was dressed so brightly and colorfully, I took her picture under the Country Waffles Redding sign.  Upon entering, we saw some breakfast specials imprinted on the wall.  I quickly decided on a country-fried steak breakfast, smothered in Country Waffles Redding gravy (of course!). At the same time, Cheryl opted for a chicken-and-apple bacon waffle Benedict with sugar-free maple syrup.

Server Charlene Meyers, who’s been with Country Waffles Redding for over two decades, showed us to our booth.  After ordering and getting my heart started with that never-empty-cup-of-Country Waffles coffee, I chatted her up, saying, “You know, I was invited by my long-time friend, Richard A. “Dick” Wilkinson, Jr., to attend a lunch here.” And she replied, “Oh, yeah, there’s plenty of clubs and organizations that meet at Country Waffles Redding, ‘cause they like our meeting room in the back; you wanna’ list of all of them for your story?”  Of course, I said… ordering, and here they are:

Korean Veterans of Shasta County; Jay’s Fishing Group; Breakfast Lions Club International; Enterprise Lions Club International; Singles Information Group; Seniors Info. Life Group; Friends Group; Alcoholics Anonymous (AA); Shasta State Retirees; 1st Baptist and Grace Baptist and Millville Men’s Baptist Church(es); Risen King Men’s Prayer Group; Romeos; Northern Retired Federal Employees; Retired PG&E Employees Group and the Thursday Church Group.

Country Waffles Redding, located at 2300 Athens Avenue, at the corner of South Street, is a beloved breakfast and brunch spot known for its delicious food and welcoming atmosphere. Some popular items are hickory-smoked bacon and eggs (any style), butter steak and country-fried steak breakfast, cinnamon roll French toast, and, of course, what Country Waffles Redding is famous for:  WAFFLES.  And if you’re lookin’ for a meeting place, Charlene suggests you call 530-255-8105.
