If one entered the Redding Elks #1073 spacious dining room in the late afternoon of Sunday, January 18, 2026, they’d have seen, off to the side, a significant amount of canned food, sundries, cleaning supplies, and the like, all soon to be delivered to Veterans of the Cornelius House, a rental assistance program administered by the Faithworks Community Coalition of Redding.

Such was the setting for the Redding Emblem Club #515 12th-annual Baked Potato Bar Veterans Shower Dinner, attended by about a hundred Redding Emblem #515 and Redding Elks #1073 members. “Emblem and Elks members are very happy to be able to shower our local vets at the Cornelius House with needed supplies for their transition from homelessness to safe housing,” proclaimed Darlene Didion, who serves as the Americanism chairman.

Didion continues: “And every year, when we ask the Cornelius Vets what they want, they hesitate to answer, feeling undeserving, as they want to be the ones giving. So we tell them that 2026 is the year to be blessed, and to join us in thanking all those in our community, especially Faithworks Community Coalition in Redding, who help get these men and women ‘back-on-their-feet,’” concluded Didion.
