In a disturbing incident that unfolded in a quiet Redding residential neighborhood yesterday, a 43-year-old local man faces multiple felony charges after police say he intentionally drove his vehicle into a group of pedestrians following verbal threats.
According to the Redding Police Department (RPD), officers responded around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, to reports of a vehicle striking multiple people on Reservoir Lane. Upon arrival, they found several victims, including two lying on the ground with visible injuries.
Witness accounts and evidence paint a chilling picture: Earlier that afternoon, officers had already been called to the same area for a reported verbal disturbance involving the same individuals. Witnesses told police that the suspect—later identified as Jesse Daniel Eneix, 43, of Redding—made verbal threats toward at least one person in the group.
Moments later, Eneix allegedly entered his vehicle and accelerated straight toward the group of pedestrians at high speed. One victim quickly shouted a warning, enabling several people to jump aside and avoid being hit. Even so, Eneix is accused of narrowly missing multiple individuals before striking two victims directly and grazing a third, then fleeing the scene.
An update provided by Corporal Omey of the Redding Police Department on February 10 confirmed that the victims were evaluated and received medical treatment, though none sustained life-threatening injuries.
A nearby resident's surveillance video captured the event and reportedly corroborated witness statements, showing the vehicle being driven in a manner consistent with intent to cause death or serious bodily injury.
Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle as it attempted to leave the area and conducted a traffic stop. During the detention, Eneix was evaluated and determined to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
He was arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail on five counts of assault with a deadly weapon (likely under California Penal Code 245(a)(1), involving a vehicle) and driving under the influence (DUI). The case number is RPD26-001625. The release was authored by Officer Arnold and reviewed by Sergeant Berg.
This event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance in our neighborhoods and the critical work of first responders. Thankfully, quick police action prevented further harm, and the suspect is now in custody. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims as they recover from their injuries—may they heal fully and swiftly.
