Shasta County-ians are known to have a generous bent, and it was really evident on March 30, 2026, when hundreds of them gathered at the Redding Elks Lodge to pay $25 each for a small, ceramic “bowl-of-soup,” with all proceeds benefitting the food program at the Good News s Rescue Mission (GNRM).

The Good News Rescue Mission Secures a $2.2 Million Matching Grant From Shasta County’s Opioid Settlement Funds for a $21 Million Expansion Project Funded by the State of California
$2.2 Million Marching Grant from Shasta County's Opioid Settlement Funds was awarded to The Good News Rescue Mission for a $21 Million Expansion Project Funded by the State of California. This will provide for a 75-bed in-patient substance abuse treatment facility which will be part of a two phase program for rehabilitation, training, housing, and long-term support for adults with substance abuse disorders.
