Tiger Woods Arrested on DUI Charges After Rollover Crash in Jupiter Island, Florida

March 28, 2026 – Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested Friday afternoon on misdemeanor charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test following a single-vehicle rollover crash near his home in Jupiter Island, Florida.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. ET on South Beach Road, a residential two-lane street. According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods was driving a black Land Rover at high speed while attempting to overtake a pickup truck pulling a trailer. He clipped the rear of the trailer, causing his SUV to lift, swerve, and roll onto its driver’s side.

Woods, 50, was able to climb out of the vehicle through the passenger door on his own. Neither he nor the driver of the other vehicle was injured. Deputies described Woods as cooperative but “lethargic” and showing clear signs of impairment at the scene.

DUI Testing and Charges

Woods submitted to a breathalyzer test, which registered 0.000 — no alcohol in his system. However, he refused a requested urine test to check for drugs or medications.

He was charged with:

  • DUI with property damage

  • Refusal to submit to a lawful test

Both are misdemeanors. He was booked into the Martin County Jail and held for the standard eight-hour period before release.

He was not charged with DUI simply for refusing the urine test. Sheriff Budensiek emphasized that deputies observed multiple signs of impairment at the scene, independent of the chemical tests. The refusal added a separate charge under Florida’s implied consent law, but the DUI itself was based on probable cause from Woods’ behavior, the crash circumstances, and roadside evaluations. Without the urine results, proving the exact substance in court could be more difficult, but the arrest and charges proceeded on the basis of the observed evidence.

This marks Woods’ second DUI-related arrest. In 2017, he pleaded guilty to reckless driving after being found asleep at the wheel with multiple prescription medications (including opioids and sedatives) in his system, but no alcohol.

No official statement has been released yet from Woods or his representatives. The PGA Tour and his team have not commented publicly as of Saturday morning.

Woods has battled multiple back surgeries and injuries in recent years, and this latest incident comes as he continues to manage a long-term recovery. The case is still under investigation.
