There's No Such Thing As...

Opinion

There is no such thing as non-political  Experts suggest that claiming to be “non-political” is a myth that serves to maintain the status quo. It works like this: "If I tell you I’m not political you can’t question my motives for what I say and do." Watch how fast saying “I’m not political” shuts you up and probably even stops you from thinking.

We can plainly see what people say and do, and determine which side of the fence they are on. Saying, “I don’t belong to a political party; I’m not political,” is just a ploy that says, “Look at me. I’m pure as the driven snow.” It’s hard to argue with, although after reading this, you should be able to say, “Yes, you are. You can’t help yourself.”

It looks like any group you belong to is political. Unless you’re just sitting around gossiping, the group is political. Any time people are making choices that affect others, that’s part of politics. I think you might even be able to say the family is political. Almost every choice people—and groups—make can affect others and involve some kind of power or rule. That’s political. They (the groups) can’t help themselves.

Political, in and of itself, is a useful word to describe dynamics. However, it has been turned into a dirty word by politicians because of their motivation to win at all costs. They use the tools of: Shutting people up, Finger-pointing, Name-calling, and Making the speaker look as if they have no ulterior motives of their own.

So, from now on, if someone asks you if you are political, just say, “Yes, I am. I can’t help myself, and I’m proud of it.”
