The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has announced it will conduct a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on Saturday, November 29, 2025, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at an undisclosed location within the county.
The checkpoint is part of ongoing efforts to deter impaired driving and improve roadway safety. Locations are selected based on data showing a history of DUI-related collisions, arrests, and traffic violations in the area.
Officials emphasized that impairment isn’t limited to alcohol. Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and marijuana (even when legally used) can all impair driving ability and lead to a DUI charge. Driving under the influence of cannabis remains illegal in California.
The Sheriff’s Office urged the public to plan ahead: designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service, or stay home if consuming alcohol or any impairing substance.
A first-time DUI conviction in California typically carries an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver’s license.
The operation is funded by a grant from the California Highway Patrol’s Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program.
Motorists are reminded that checkpoints are one of many tools law enforcement uses during the busy holiday season to keep Shasta County roads safe.
