Pet of the Week (Returning Favorite): Meet TOBO – The Clownish, Super-Smart Chocolate Lab Who’s All Manners and Big Love!

If you missed him the first time, here’s your second chance to fall for TOBO, the 2-year-old Pedigree Chocolate Labrador Retriever from CATZ and DOGZ of The North State Inc in Cottonwood, CA! This big, lovable hunk is back in the spotlight because Karen (who runs the rescue) says he’s made even more progress and is ready for his forever home.

TOBO is a total clown with a heart of gold — playful, funny, curious, and extremely eager to please. He’s been getting daily one-on-one training from Karen, and the results are impressive! He heels beautifully on leash, heads straight to his bed the moment he comes inside the house, and sits politely while his food bowl is set down — waiting patiently for the “eat” command before digging in. No lunging, just excellent manners that Karen has worked hard to build.

His story is a little heartbreaking, but it shows how resilient he is. He ended up living in a kennel with an old harness that literally grew into the skin under his armpits from neglect. A friend stepped in to foster him. Then, Catz and Dogz of the North State took him in and have been pouring love and consistency into him ever since.

TOBO is very, very smart and learns incredibly quickly — Karen says if she didn’t have all her other animals to care for, she’d train him to become a service dog because he has that kind of potential! He needs a consistent, patient human to keep building on the great foundation he already has. Daily walks or runs are still a must to burn off his Lab energy so he stays calm and happy.

His only real “bad point”? He doesn’t do well around chickens and will chase them (he picked it up from the hounds at the rescue). A chicken-free home would be ideal. He gets along great with other dogs and would love a large piece of property where he can run and play with a furry friend his own size.

Fully vetted and ready to go: neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, on Heartgard, worm-treated, and microchipped. He comes with his pedigree paperwork, a new harness and leash, plus 3 months of grooming courtesy of Pam Blackwell at Puppy Love Grooming!
