MEDIA RELEASE Sex Offender Arrested for Violating Probation and Possession of Weapon and Ammunition

On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office AB109/SAFE team, in partnership with detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and officers from the Shasta County Probation Department, conducted a probation compliance check at a residence in the 600 block of Saginaw Street, Redding.
The subject was 65-year-old Duane Emerson Ohling of Redding, who is on formal probation in Shasta County and registered as a sex offender under Penal Code 290.
During the check, Ohling was found viewing pornography on an electronic device—a direct violation of his probation conditions. Investigators also located a safe containing an assault rifle, multiple modified high-capacity magazines, and approximately 3,350 rounds of ammunition.
As a convicted felon (from a 2024 case), Ohling is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
He was arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail on the following charges:
- 1203.2 PC – Violation of Probation
- 29800(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- 30305(a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Ammunition
- 30605(a) PC – Possession of an Assault Weapon
- 30600(a) PC – Manufacturing an Assault Weapon
Ohling is being held with no bail.
