Inmate Attempts Escape After Self-Inflicted Injury; Assaults Correctional Deputies

On January 7, 2026, 26-year-old inmate, Jordan David Lee Moore, jumped from the upper tier in his housing unit at the Shasta County Jail, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. He received first aid and was transported to a local hospital.
While at the hospital, Moore became non-compliant, attempted to escape, assaulted the two guarding correctional deputies, and challenged them to shoot him. Redding Police officers and hospital security assisted in subduing him after a brief struggle. No further injuries occurred.
Moore later admitted to the escape attempt and was returned to jail.

- PC 69(a) Resisting an Executive Officer by Force/Intimidation
- PC 4532(a)(2) Attempted Escape from Custody
