On June 14, 2026, the White House South Lawn hosted one of the most spectacular events in modern American history: UFC Freedom 250. Part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations and coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday, the event drew thousands of spectators, fighters, and dignitaries for a night of mixed martial arts, patriotism, and national unity under the iconic backdrop of the White House.

What the public didn’t know until after the event was that radical elements plotted to turn this celebration of liberty into a scene of mass violence. Thankfully, the FBI and partner agencies stopped the attack cold days before it could unfold.

The Spectacle That Almost Became a Target

President Trump and UFC CEO Dana White walked the red carpet as fighters entered the Octagon, surrounded by massive crowds, fireworks, and patriotic displays. The event symbolized American strength and the return of bold, unapologetic celebration after years of division.

Videos from the night capture the electric atmosphere — something Shasta County residents and conservatives nationwide can appreciate as a rejection of woke gloom and an embrace of American exceptionalism.

The Foiled Assassination Plot

According to court documents and FBI statements, a group of individuals planned a multi-phase attack using explosive-laden drones to strike the crowd, followed by snipers firing into the resulting panic, and a possible “second wave” assault on White House gates. High-profile attendees, politicians, and spectators were reportedly in the crosshairs.

The plot was uncovered thanks to quick-thinking family intervention. On or around June 10, the mother of 19-year-old Tycen C. Proper of Danville, Ohio, contacted authorities after noticing alarming behavior: large purchases of firearms, ammunition, and ballistic plates, plus concerning online activity. Proper was interviewed while hospitalized and admitted key details of the plot on June 11, triggering a rapid multi-state FBI operation.

Communications occurred in a TikTok group called something like “Vanguard of the Old” (or “Vanguard of the Old Republic”) before moving to encrypted Signal chats. Participants discussed maps, sniper positions, drone launch sites, safe houses, and escape routes. Evidence seized included rifles, handguns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and tactical gear.

Suspects and Charges

Five U.S. citizens have been arrested so far:

  • Tycen C. Proper, 19, Danville, Ohio – Alleged key figure who discussed drones and targeting high-value individuals.

  • Bryan Omar Roa, 24, Calimesa, California.

  • Michael Alan Thomas, 32, Pinon Hills, California – Described as a planner/advisor.

  • Daniel K. Eskridge, ~32, Missouri.

  • Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, 31, Omaha, Nebraska.

They face serious charges, including conspiracy to commit murder of government officials and others. Motives appear rooted in anti-government grievances, a desire to “jump-start a revolution,” and a desire to restore what they called the “old republic.” No formal terrorist organization was named, but the ideology mixed anti-elite sentiment with other fringe views.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the threat was neutralized, allowing the event to proceed safely.

Why This Matters in Shasta County and Beyond

This plot reminds us that threats to American liberty can come from within — often fueled by online echo chambers and personal despair. In Shasta County, where we value self-reliance, faith, and constitutional rights, we must remain vigilant. Local law enforcement and community watchfulness are our first lines of defense, just as one concerned mother’s tip saved lives here.

As conservatives, we celebrate the successful event and the professionals who protected it, while demanding full transparency in the investigation. No excuses for extremism, regardless of the source.
