Ex-DOJ Prosecutor Busted for Stealing Sealed Jack Smith Report on Trump – Disguised as “Bundt Cake Recipe”

Breaking: Shasta Unfiltered • May 20, 2026

In what appears to be yet another stunning example of the two-tiered justice system and lingering deep state rot, a former high-ranking federal prosecutor in Florida has been indicted for allegedly stealing confidential portions of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s sealed report on President Trump’s classified documents case.

Carmen Mercedes Lineberger, 62, who served as Managing Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida’s Fort Pierce office, faces four felony counts: two for theft of government property, plus concealment, removal, mutilation of public records, and destruction/alteration/falsification of records. She pleaded not guilty today in federal court in West Palm Beach and was released on her own recognizance.

The Cake Recipe Cover-Up

According to the indictment, while still employed by the DOJ in late 2025, Lineberger accessed and emailed herself a copy of the highly sensitive Volume II of Jack Smith’s final report. This was the sealed portion of the investigation into Trump’s handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago — the very case dismissed by Judge Aileen Cannon.

To hide her tracks, she allegedly renamed the files to “Bundt_Cake_Recipe.pdf” and “Chocolate_cake_recipe.pdf” before sending them from her government account to personal Gmail and Hotmail accounts.

This wasn’t some low-level clerk. Lineberger had official access in the same judicial district where Smith’s team brought the case against Trump. Critics are calling it a blatant breach of trust and a potential attempt to preserve or leak ammunition from a politicized investigation that many viewed as lawfare designed to interfere in the 2024 election.

Direct Tie to Jack Smith’s Trump Probe

Volume II was kept under court seal precisely to avoid prejudicing the election. Smith resigned after Trump’s victory, but this leak attempt raises serious questions about insiders trying to keep the fire alive or protect the narrative. FBI Director Kash Patel slammed the move, noting Lineberger “supported Jack Smith’s politicized investigation” and promised accountability.

This comes as the new Trump DOJ and FBI appear to be cleaning house on past abuses.

Why This Matters

For years, Americans watched as Trump faced unprecedented legal warfare while Hunter Biden’s laptop and other scandals were buried. Now, with fresh eyes on the DOJ, cases like this expose how insiders allegedly played fast and loose with rules they enforced on others.

One rogue prosecutor doesn’t indict the entire system — but it sure fits the pattern of selective leaks, weaponized agencies, and zero accountability that defined the prior administration’s approach to Trump.

Watch for updates: This is fresh — expect more on motive, where the files went, and whether this spirals into a wider probe.
