City of Redding Announces Unexpected Passing of City Manager William Tarbox

The City of Redding announced Monday that City Manager William Tarbox passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
Tarbox was appointed by the Redding City Council in late 2025 and officially began serving as City Manager in February 2026. In a statement released by the city, officials said he was committed to serving the Redding community and working alongside city employees, elected officials, and community partners during his brief tenure.
“Our hearts are with Will’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” said Mayor Mike Littau. “We are grateful for his service to the City of Redding and extend our deepest condolences to all who knew and cared for him.”
Out of respect for the family, the city said it will not release additional details about his passing.

The Redding City Council is scheduled to consider the appointment of an interim City Manager during its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
