Anderson Police Department Makes Mustard On National Hot Dog Day

It was “Hot Dogs With Our Cops” on Wednesday, June 15, 2026,  inside the Blackburn Apparel and Virtual Golf Shop in Anderson, as members of the Anderson Police Department mingled with an elbow-brushing-arm crowd of Shasta County-ians to celebrate National Hot Dog Day.

“This was a really good opportunity for folks to stop by during lunch to meet our local officers, enjoy a hot dog, and get to know the people behind the badge, in a relaxed family setting”, remarked the Anderson Chief of Police, Oliver Collins, head of the Anderson Police Department (APD).

Here are more appreciative and complimentary messages:

DAN GALLER-“Go APD, that’s awesome!"

BETTY BARA-“Thank you, APD.”

ROBERT WEBB-“Sounds like a nice idea.  Thank you, APD."

RUSS WENHAM-“It was great spending lunch with Councilman Bonnie Simmons, City Manager, Joey Forsyth Deshais, and Anderson Chief of Police, Oliver Collins.”

DARIN HALE-“Shout out to Jon Blackburn for not only  providing  the perfect venue (his business!),  but also for satisfying the taste buds of a fast-food nature.”

ROBERT EXTER-“Proud to be a Back-the-Blue supporter.”

Some Hot Dog History:

Charles Feltman, a German immigrant and baker by trade, invented the first hot dog in 1867 on Coney Island, New York, as a convenient way for beachgoers to enjoy frankfurter sausages. National Hot Dog Day was established in 1991 by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.  The celebration was created to coincide with their annual picnic and hot dog lunch on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and is held annually on the third Wednesday of every July.
