A cement plant just north of Redding (CalPortland Redding Cement Plant in the Mountain Gate area) suddenly laid off 53 employees this morning (April 10). Many of those affected were longtime members of the local United Steelworkers union.

In late 2025 and early 2026, Amazon executed one of the largest corporate layoffs in its history, eliminating approximately 30,000 roles across its global operations. This included an initial reduction of 14,000 jobs in October 2025, followed by another 16,000 announced on January 28, 2026.
