In a race that has captivated national attention, former reality TV star Spencer Pratt is mounting a serious—and increasingly viable—challenge for Mayor of Los Angeles. The nonpartisan primary on June 2, 2026, features incumbent Karen Bass and other challengers, but Pratt has surged in the polls through sharp messaging, unfiltered debate performances, and a groundbreaking embrace of AI-generated campaign content.

Pratt, a second-generation Angeleno best known from MTV’s The Hills, has positioned himself as a no-nonsense alternative to failed progressive leadership. His campaign focuses on homelessness, crime, public safety, and the city’s response to devastating wildfires that claimed his own Pacific Palisades home. Recent Emerson polling shows Bass leading at around 30%, with Pratt at 22% (up significantly since March) and Councilmember Nithya Raman trailing. Prediction markets give Pratt a strong chance of advancing to the November runoff.

Viral AI Ads Redefine Campaigning—and Resonate with Latino Voters

What truly sets Pratt’s run apart is his embrace of AI-generated videos and imagery, which have gone mega-viral, racking up millions of views. Supporters and independent creators have produced cinematic spots portraying Pratt as a heroic figure—Batman or a Jedi—battling dystopian versions of the city’s woes under current leadership.

These high-production AI-crafted ads have drawn praise for creativity and criticism for questions around “fake” content—but their impact is undeniable. Crucially, the ads are resonating deeply with Los Angeles’s large Hispanic community. This enthusiasm has prompted the group Latinos Por Pratt (also referred to as Latinos for Pratt) to produce their own AI-generated content, further amplifying the campaign’s reach.

One standout from Latinos Por Pratt is the salsa-infused “Spencer, Saca La Bassura” music video, featuring Pratt wheeling out a trash bin containing Mayor Bass (playing on “Bassura,” Spanish for trash), street party scenes with dancing and flags, and catchy lyrics. The group has followed up with teasers like a Batman-themed spot. These culturally targeted AI ads have gone viral within Latino circles, helping Pratt gain ground despite Bass’s traditional edge in that demographic.

What is really amazing about all these viral ads is that most were not produced by Pratt. The LA tech community has jumped on the production bandwagon. He has reposted many of these creations, creating a grassroots AI ad ecosystem. Outlets like the LA Times, NY Post, Hollywood Reporter, CNN, and The Guardian have covered the phenomenon, noting how it’s energizing voters and changing the game.

Debate Dominance Prompts Opponent Pullouts

Pratt’s momentum accelerated after a fiery debate against Bass and Raman. He delivered blunt takedowns on homelessness, immigration, wildfires, and public safety, earning widespread praise as the clear winner. Post-debate viewer polls (including one NBC LA poll with ~89-90% declaring him victor) showed significant gains.

In the aftermath, both leading opponents stepped back from subsequent debates. Bass and Raman withdrew from key forums, leading to cancellations. Critics viewed it as a sign they were unwilling to face Pratt again on stage.

Pratt has labeled opponents as aligned with far-left policies, frequently calling Bass “Mayor Basura” and highlighting socialist-leaning approaches. His unapologetic style resonates with voters frustrated by the status quo, including growing segments of the Latino community drawn to his direct messaging.

A Campaign for the Moment

With supporters like Latinos Por Pratt fueling creative, targeted content and celebrities showing interest, Pratt’s run feels tailor-made for 2026’s attention economy. Whether the AI-fueled surge carries him to victory remains to be seen, but he has undeniably disrupted the race in unprecedented ways.

Los Angeles voters head to the polls soon. For those tired of the same old results, Spencer Pratt is offering something distinctly different—and the viral ads, including those resonating with Latino voters, are making sure everyone hears the message.
