Shasta County Supporters Turn Out in Force to Defend Voter-Approved Measure B

ANDERSON, Calif. — The Anderson VFW Hall had a full house Friday evening, July 24, 2026, as Shasta County residents gathered for a Fundraising Dinner and Live Auction in support of Measure B, the Voter ID and election reform charter amendment.

The strong community turnout demonstrated continued grassroots backing for the initiative, which passed with more than 56% of the vote. Despite this clear voter approval, California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley Weber have filed suit seeking to block the measure’s implementation before the August 24 deadline.

Measure B is a citizen-led, grassroots initiative focused on election integrity, security, and local control. The Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 not to defend the measure in court, leading supporters to organize private fundraising efforts to cover legal costs. Organizers say dedicated county residents have once again stepped forward to uphold the will of the voters.

Alexander Haberbush, Esq. (Lex Rex Institute), a recognized California election law expert, is representing the defense. Supporters are confident the measure can prevail, as Haberbush has successfully defended Measure B in other court cases.

“If you believe that citizens — not Sacramento — should control the future of their elections, consider supporting this effort. The right of the people to govern themselves depends on it,” said Kristin Jones of the Lex Rex Institute.

The evening featured a BBQ dinner with all the fixings, a live auction, and a spirited gathering of Measure B supporters. The event was organized by the Shasta Five, with Rich Gallardo leading the overall effort. Many volunteers contributed countless hours to make the night possible, with Patrick and Lori Jones going above and beyond in organizing, and John Knight generously purchasing and cooking the meat for the dinner.
