Should Shasta County and the City of Redding Admit They Erred in Moving Forward with Plans for a Correctional Facility Adjacent to a Residential Neighborhood?
Redding residents and concerned citizens came out in droves on Tuesday evening, January 13th to voice their concerns and opposition to a proposed Alternative Correction Facility and Future Jail, that was the subject of a rezoning hearing put before the Redding City Planning Commission. Many safety, economic, and environmental concerns were brought up by 35 speakers at the hearing, which resulted in no action being taken by the Commissioners.

On March 13, during a budget workshop, Council Member Tenessa Audette noticed shifting claims about a budget gap—first $4M, then $8M. City Manager Barry Tippin insisted cuts could only come from police or fire. Audette raised questions about cash balances and inconsistent figures but got no clear answers, and was later prevented from asking questions when the budget passed 4–1.
